This ephemeral old Abolitionist newspaper was originally folded into eighths, and now has some wrinkles, tears & rough edges, especially along those old fold lines. There are small holes where some of the fold lines intersect. The largest tears/holes are only about 1". The newspaper is otherwise in quite good condition.

The paper has good rag content and is not brittle at all. It should hold-up quite well with normal handling, reading, scanning, etc.

Visually the most powerful part of this old paper is the masthead.

"I COME TO BREAK THE BONDS OF THE OPPRESSOR," it proclaims, with Jesus as the figurehead. The slogan “NO UNION WITH SLAVE-HOLDERS” appears, along with an illustration of a slave auction at left and imagined slave emancipation at right.

The scans below show most of the front page center fold line (to show condition)
& some enlarged detail from this historic old paper.
