SECTION 4

1919 Correspondence

The Chapman brothers long for home.

-- NINE (9) letters and related material. Eight are written home by "Bootus" Chapman, but one excellent "Home-front" letter is written to him from a "lady-friend" in Reading, Massachusetts. The letters in this section run from 10 January to 2 May 1919.

-- Two of the letters have patriotic YMCA letterhead on the stationary.

-- Bootus wrote six of these letters home to Ma, Pa, and someone named Steve. He wrote one to "Nug" (Lester Chapman) and another to an acquaintance named "Jim." A final letter is written to Bootus by a lady-friend in Reading, Massachusetts.

-- The transcriptions that follow are only some of the most interesting excerpts from the full letters.
