Dear Steve:

Received your letter dated Nov 11, and can't say that you appeared very optimistic over the finish.
[...]

If you were here you would see that Germany was unable to stand up against that army when we stopped . . . THE BOCHE WAS LIKE AN EGG, the shell representing the lines. When this broke everything went as in the case of an egg.

WE MAY GET THE KAISER YET but may not be able to bring him home. If he is put on trial there will be one (?) mob rush to be one of the jury.
[...]

We came over as a fighting unit and was America's first to fight and we fought until there was no more fighting. As there is no more fighting to do why should we stay? Consequently the rumor has it, PARADE IN PARIS FOR PRES WILSON on the 12th and then home for Xmas.
[...]

You say so many will have to be satisfied before it is all over. THE OBJECT OF THE U.S. IS TO SEE THAT THERE WILL BE NO MORE WARS, and after the rest have satisfied themselves the U.S.'s object will be attained for there will be nothing left over there to fight again.
[...]

Will stop now and wish both you and Ma a Merry Xmas and don't be surprised if I walk in for a leg of the Turkey . . .
With love
Bootus
