1932 ADVERTISING PHOTO CIRCUS ACT- TARZAN THE HUMAN APE
This is a rare photo page from the promotional notebook of a
booking agent for circus acts. The page
measure 9 x 10" and is backed with linen for durability. Numerous fair & circus promoters seeking
acts to fit their entertainment operating budgets must have turned this
page. Two large ring-binder holes along
the left edge show where the page was fit into the agent’s notebook.
The page is a glossy black & white photograph of an
unusual Circus Act featuring a man named E. Anderson in 1932 (printed in
emulsion at top of photo). Written on
the reverse side is “TARZAN, THE HUMAN APE” which was apparently the name of
Anderson’s act. In the center of the
page is a photo of Anderson wearing his costume of an ape dressed in a
tuxedo-like circus costume. In
contrast, there is a photo portrait of Anderson without his ape costume in the
upper left corner of the page. The
remainder of the page is made up of nine smaller, drawn pictures of the ape and
his antics to amuse the audience—riding bicycle, drinking, boxing, smoking,
playing ball, etc. Good condition as
shown in scan below.
